HOMEBUYER/OWNERSHIP SERVICES

South Shore Housing is certified through Mass Housing Finance Agency to conduct homebuyer education courses. Our course structure and materials have received the Seal of Approval from the Massachusetts Homeownership Collaborative and the Massachusetts Housing Partnership Fund. Through this service we conduct education seminars consisting of eight hours of education in the areas of home buying.

Seminars are held on a regular basis and include guest speakers from different areas, such as mortgage, insurance, inspection and home maintenance. For a schedule of classes please click here.

Participants in the education seminar receive a certificate of completion that satisfies the homebuyer counseling for MHFA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and other discounted mortgage products. As well as financial support in the form of down payment and closing cost assistance.

SPECIAL MORTGAGE PRODUCTS

There are several products available to first time homebuyers. According to program eligibility requirements the definition of first time homebuyer is as follows: a person who has not owned a piece of property in three years, a displaced homeowner, single parent or not owned a property with a foundation.

MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEE MORTGAGE – Government and nonprofit employees may be eligible for a special mortgage if purchasing a home in the town they work. For more information click on link.
SOFT SECOND –State funds are available to assist income eligible families purchase homes. These funds are in the form of a loan and are income and town restricted. For more information click on the link
RIDE THE "T" TO WORK – If you commute to work via the MBTA you may qualify for a no down payment mortgage. For more information click on the link
