Individual Self-Sufficiency Initiative
The Individual Self Sufficiency Initiative (ISSI) is a state funded program intended to provide short term housing assistance for homeless individuals. The members of the Massachusetts Non-Profit Housing Association(MNPHA) administer the program statewide. There are two models used in the program: resource and development.
The resource model is tenant based. The participant may get assistance with rent, first and last month’s rent, security deposits and other housing related costs. The development model enables owners to obtain gap financing to make their units available to ISSI eligible tenants.
Each MNPHA agency administers the program slightly different. SSHDC accepts referrals from Mainspring House in Brockton and PAACA in New Bedford for the resource model. Individual owners may inquire directly for assistance with the development model.
