The Project Based Voucher (PBV) Program is used to expand the supply of existing affordable housing. Federal rental assistance is provided for units for up to 10 years. The owner agrees to select tenants for the units from SSHDC’s waiting list. The owner is responsible for screening the tenants for tenancy, as they would in a private market situation. Tenants pay 30% of their adjusted income toward the rent and utility costs, and SSHDC pays the balance of the rent directly to the landlord.
