Housing Assistance Program (HAP)
The Housing Assistance Program (HAP) provides housing search assistance, homeless prevention counseling and follow-up stabilization services.
Recipients of these services must be referred from the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) and be eligible for Emergency Assistance. Families may be eligible for our services and not be receiving TAFDC Benefits, many families are eligible for Emergency Assistance and do not receive cash assistance.
Housing Search Counselors work with families to identify housing problems and possible solutions. The primary goal would be for the family to maintain there housing, when this is not possible counselors will refer clients to area shelters or agencies providing shelters.
Counselors act as information and referral sources once issues have been identified. Counselors also conduct workshops on how to conduct housing search. For a schedule of workshops click here
If you think you may be eligible for these services, contact your local DTA office to request a referral. The location of your local office can be found by clicking here http://www.state.ma.us/dta/ASSIST/location/index.htm.
